we got married! It's official

August 25, 2001 ~ The DAY!

thessalonia baptist church

August 25, 2001 was an amazing day. Some may remember that traffic was incredible that day. The powerball in Connecticut had reached an obscene number so people were traveling from the tri-state area for their chance to win. As far as we were concerned, we had already won because God has brought us together. What a blessed day! The sanctuary was packed with family and friends from around the country. There was no stress that day. Proverbs 3:5 was in full measure. To God be ALL the glory!!!

Rev. Dr. Shellie Sampson, Jr.

The esteemed Pastor of Thessalonia Baptist Church, now Thessalonia Worship Center. God has called him from labor to reward. Before Kevin came along, in many ways he was the only Pastor that Myra had known. This is the only picture that we have from that day with Pastor Sampson where he can be seen fully in his robe. Myra and Kevin lit the Unity candles bringing our families together as one before we jumped the broom in the spirit of African-American tradition.

The family matriarchs give their blessings

Aunt Sue to the far left representing the Linen family. Mommy standing next to her about to marry off her Baby Girl, representing the Grate family. Both giving their blessing to the Union with their prayers and presence.

God's Favor

One of the few pictures where you can see us totally. Taken on the balcony of the reception hall. Myra's head wear and bouquet were custom made by Sherry Chopin. Myra’s “something old” was her mother’s wedding ring that her dad placed on her finger in 1963. Kevin is holding an African walking stick. Engraved on the walking stick are the names Archie McAfee and Lera Miller, Kevin's maternal and paternal grandparents, respectively. Always remember those who have gone before us.
